Gout is a painful type of arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in and around the joints. Most painful attacks last a few hours to a few days. It's an extremely painful condition and patients are often desperate for some gout pain relief.

Gout attacks can be controlled or prevented by using a better gout diet, lifestyle changes and the use of certain medications. When a low purine diet is used, studies have shown that gout symptoms decrease and the sudden, painful attacks of gout can be prevented.
